Built because we needed better filament.

Filaform did not begin as a filament company. It began as a print farm: printers running around the clock, producing parts that had to be right the first time.

At that scale, filament quality stops being a matter of taste. A spool that drifts a tenth of a millimetre in diameter, or a batch that behaves differently from the last one, does not just produce a worse print. It produces a failed print, eight hours later, on a machine that could have been making something else.

We could not consistently buy what we needed, so we developed our own. Filaform was established in South Australia in 2012, and in 2021 operations moved to Melbourne, where the brand is still based, in the city's north.

The print farm never stopped being the thing every material has to satisfy. It still runs, and it is still the test bed. It set the standard for how we publish, too: a value we cannot substantiate does not go on the page.
